Six principles of wearing surgical gowns

During the operation, medical staff must wear special surgical gowns. When wearing the disposable surgical gown, it is important to ensure that the surgical gown is sterile to achieve a certain protective effect. Doctors should observe the following principles when wearing surgical gowns to ensure the sterility of surgical gowns:

1. Fasten the surgical gown with the tie at the neckline and waist.

2. Make sure the surgical gown covers the front and back of your gowns.

3. Make sure the surgical gown is securely placed on the wrist and gloves are on the cuffs.

4. If the doctor touches the outside of his surgical gown while wearing it, the gown will be contaminated. If this happens, discard the surgical gown. The doctor can only touch the inside of the surgical gown when putting it on.

NOTE: The surgical gown is folded and the inside faces the doctor. This folding method makes it easy to pick up and put on the gown without touching the outer surface.

5. Physicians can become contaminated with scrubbed hands and arms if they drop them below the waist or touch the body. Therefore, the doctor's hands and arms should be kept above the waist, away from the body, about 20 to 30 degrees above the elbows.

6. After wearing the gown, the only parts of the gown that are considered sterile are the sleeves (except the armpits) and the front from the waist to a few inches below the neck. If the gown has been touched or brushed with an unsterile object, the gown is considered contaminated and you must put on a new sterile gown.
