On June 3rd, WHO held a regular press conference on New Coronary Pneumonia. Michael Ryan, WHO health emergency project leader, expressed full support for countries to use surgical face masks more widely in specific environments as a comprehensive response strategy. However, they are concerned about the use of sterile face masks as an alternative to all other measures. Masks should be added to the risk management process, rather than replacing public health interventions, maintaining physical distance, and monitoring and blockade measures. WHO will update the guidelines on the use of masks.
